As for best half, in terms of total points scored, no. We've had 61 and 54-point halves against Pacific and UNLV.

Considering the quality of opponent, definitely the best half we've played. We outscored UCLA 43-20 in the first half of the Pac-12 championship game, and OSU 46-22 in the second half of the semi-finals. 41-8 in the second half against Cal was definitely our best defensive effort, but Cal sucked, and 44-20 in the first half against Arizona at Arizona was pretty good, as was 49-26 in the first half against Missouri State. But 52-25 in the second half against a team that at one point was the top-ranked team in the country was by far the best.

It was great to see Ashten not only have an outstanding game, but also how her teammates and coaches reacted/appreciated her efforts. After the game coach Paye gave her a very play full push, Tara gave her a bear hug around the waste, Brink gave a big hug around the shoulders and Lacie gave her a very emphatic five, all accompanied with big smiles.

I thought the absolute worst moment of the game was 30 seconds left in the first half when Jones lost the ball to the Louisville guard who got an uncontested layup out of it, giving them a 12 point lead. But Jones got her focus back and played splendidly in the second half.
Over at the Louisville board the fans are blaming Walz for all kinds of things--mainly that he went with a small lineup, that he did not call a timeout soon enough, etc. And they are not impressed with us, thinking we were overseeded. Well, they can think whatever they want in their bitterness.
This game may be a blessing in disguise.

2) It certainly will teach our players about the need to play with focus for all four quarters.

Me, Me, Me! I was trying to make myself care less so I would stop cussing and scaring the animals. I thought we could possibly climb back into the game but figured it was one of those cursed games. This is one of the greatest turnarounds I've ever seen out of our team. I LOVE that it was a true team effort in the comeback. We are deep and can rely on others when some of our stars are struggling or get dinged up like Cameron. (Putting out positive vibes that she will be ready to go on Friday!) Spectacular coaching by Tara pushing our defenders out and making them more active. It was enough to disrupt their offense except for on Evans. Also started taking more advantage of the midrange shot and passes in the key for easy baskets to free up some space for our 3 point shot. Some of that happened with great performances though. Some of Prechtel's threes were not completely open but she just turned and shot with confidence. So proud of her. She really seemed to have lost her way through most of the season but started improving at the end and has really showed great toughness and determination in the tournament. I think her future can be really bright. I'm just still so happy with this win. Hoping this game reminds our team of how good they are and allows them to remain calm and not be too tight in the Final Four.

Did they just decide to NOT select an all-tourney team? Or just not publicize it? I can find listings for all of the other regionals, but not this.

I was worried when we were jacking 3's in the first half. Many of them were not even good shots. Ki was dreadful and Haley was somewhere else. Lexie and Cam kept us in the game - we easily could have been down 20. Tara must have said the right things at halftime because in the second half we brought the intensity.
Let's give it up for Lexie. She might be the best COMPETITOR Stanford has ever had. Always fights, never quits. I drive my family nuts because I often rewind plays to see how much ground she covers to come up with loose balls. It really is amazing to watch her (and Lacie). Speaking of which - why no love from Tara for Lacie? Their guards were killing us in the first half!
Prechtel was fan-tastic. 16 points on 6 shots plus 4 assists, 3 boards, and 2 blocks in 16 minutes. Now that's production.

Totally agree about Lexie. Every game, every minute. And I too am also always going back to find out how she just suddenly appeared to grab a rebound, make a steal or block a shot. Amazing motor amd determomation.
One of the eary plays in the 3rd quarter was a very Lexie-like play from Anna where she came flying in to try to grab an offensive board and immediately clamped down on he ball from a stunned Louisville rebounder, wrestled the ball away while on her knees and shoveled the ball to Lexie for the layup and the and one. That play showed we had a lot of fight left and were going to give it everything we had.

That's astronomical!

Walz especially just couldn't stop talking about Prechtel and how she changed the game when she came in.
I couldn’t watch live so I recorded the game. But a family member inadvertently tipped me off that Stanford had won just before I started watching. As that nightmare of a first half proceeded I kept wondering how the heck we were going to come back. Without that knowledge of the win, I probably would have had a coronary by halftime.
I’ve been critical of Prechtel before but wow, what a clutch performance off the bench.
People always tout our depth but it sure seemed like our starters played a lot of minutes.
It’s back to the bad old days on the FT line. Who’s that old guy in the Bay Area we can hire to coach FT shooting in the off-season?

Louisville's defensive speed was a real problem for Stanford's first half, half-court offense. The second half seemed to flow a little more improvisationally for Stanford's offense, and I think that helped neutralize Louisville's defense.
