It's tough to tell whether Harbaugh or Shaw does it more or more loudly. Harbaugh, after all, declared Andrew Luck the best QB in college football before he'd even taken a snap. I'd say the principal difference between the two is the amount of attention--Harbaugh is expected to be brash and boisterous and therefore got attention whenever he said something brash and boisterous.

Another view on the praise is not that it's showing confidence, but rather motivating and setting of expectations. He's saying to these guys, well, look--this is how good you could be, but you'd better put in the work to do it.

Even if something he's saying is clearly not true (e.g., the niners were never pursuing Peyton), he says it with such conviction that you believe he believes it. I think that confidence was infectious to his players. The rest of the world scoffed when he said Stanford will bow to no program, but inside the locker room, I bet those guys bought in. I wonder if Shaw's declaration of player support will have similar effect.

* Alex Carter is an NFL Corner   Do we hold Shaw accountable if Carter morphs into an NFL Safety?  Otherwise, see Wayne Lyons above.

* Ryan Hewitt is the most versatile football player in America How does one measure "versatile"?  Maybe Ryan can rebuild fuel injection systems, is an expert on Native American pottery and has already passed the Bar Exam in Colorado.

* Stepfan Taylor is the most underrated RB in America"  [b]Very safe pronouncement.  I mean,  how does one disprove it?  With the obsolescence of the BCS rankings,  maybe Jeff Sagarin will turn his talents to a rating system for being underrated that once and for all will assign a number to that elusive quality.

I don't believe that Jemari has ever been on the field for an offensive snap. I know from someone close to him that he's terribly frustrated with the situation, and many people are wondering why he hasn't gotten a chance to play, especially last season when there was so little depth at the position. At one point Richard Sherman indicated that he was one of the most talented receivers on the roster. Hopefully this position change will get him on the field.
