i am bothered most by announcers who talk to each other rather than call the game. one play-by-play and one color, please; we don't need 2 color commentators! i was re-watching the colgate game, and they spent the 4th quarter talking to each other about nothing in any way interesting. ok, the subs are in; but maybe fans would like to hear a bit about ari patu and hear who carried the ball and who made the tackle. i presume the announcers had done no homework on the promising freshmen and sophomores.
this practice is especially annoying in women's basketball telecasts. even in an important, tight game, the camera will focus for 30 seconds on someone "interesting" in the crowd while the game is in play. or the announcers will discuss, say, tara's piano or dogs for 10 minutes.
