Our invented Point guard was darn good. 11 assists no turnovers great defense

Nivar is very athletic. Quick, strong and good body control to finish her layup after the steal.
If Nivar continues to show the offensive skill set she's shown so far, she will take minutes from Agnes. Nivar looks like our 2nd best perimeter defender after Agnes but with better overall offensive skills.
I was just thinking this. That Agnes' starting spot may be Indya's by the end of the year with this kind of offense (I also think Agnes plays D a little upright, however would agree she is our top defender on the permitter). I also could see Tara electing to put Lepolo at the 1 and move Haley back to the wing to get more offensive production out of her.
You can tell by Tara's body language that she wants the team to run the offense, seems a little frustrated that we keep jacking up quick 3's (even though quite a few are going in!)
It's hard to tell a whole lot when SDSU was not really that good, and they were certainly undersized, but I was impressed with both Nivar and Lepolo. They both play with some toughness we haven't had at times in the past. I also agree Agnes was not too impressive tonight and that someone else could eventually be starting in her place. Harriel did not seem very aggressive at all and there was one maddening moment when a loose ball seemed to float around her feet for way too long.
Betts is a work in process. Very slow out there. Let's hope for the best but based on this limited view I don't think we should stop recruiting bigs next year.
Good for Bosgana. This game played to her strengths and she showed she can make threes.
Sure, we scored 80+ points. But 2Q was a real drought for a while and the offense does need some work. Lots of new faces, and maybe that's the price of giving everyone a long look.
I believe Fran is recovering from injury, but is Ashten in the doghouse, or is Tara just giving the other posts a long look at this point in the season?

I wonder why they won't do them for non-conference. They used to do them before every game except exhibitions. Just one more way they seem not to care about hard core fans. Chalk talks are just an assistant coach spending 10 minutes answering questions, nothing too time consuming or difficult, no real preparation needed. But they can't be bothered until conference season? And wonder why attendance is not more... (I know very few of the fans who attend a game also go early for a chalk talk, but come on, having one is the minimum they can do for fans who care enough to attend them.). Yes, I am annoyed that the little we get as far as interaction with the program keeps getting less and less and less.
I'm annoyed too. Has anyone every emailed anyone within the WBB program about the concerns? Not that doing so would make any difference but would be curious if voicing frustration would actually elicit a response from anyone.

Tara has to get her out there even with such a deep team.

You are clearly a fan of pass [first] [only] guards. I am not. It’s a matter of preference. 11 assist against San Diego mostly in garbage time is inflated. Tara could have given more time to Jzaniya or someone else at point in garbage time to give them experience. I also know Haley’s offense is suffering because she has to waste so much energy bringing up the ball. Similarly, I don’t need to wait and see how the Haley as point guard 90% of the time plays out to know it’s a bad idea. It was a bad idea on paper when I read it this summer. But I also know there is a good chance Tara won’t make any changes (even with these early signs) until there is a scare or an actual loss.

Let's not get carried away by one game against an overmatched opponent. When facing against a top tier team such as South Carolina or UConn with much better defenders, we need all five players on the court to have the ability to score. We've seen it in the past - Sniezek was a great passer and facilitator but she was not willing to make jump shots even when wide open and that allowed opposing teams to sag off of her and provide them more options to double-team someone else.

Let's not get carried away by one player 5 years ago. Anyone who wants to take a single 2-point game as an indictment that Lepolo doesn't shoot seemingly hasn't done their due diligence.
High school stats do not guarantee college stats, but GoStanford indicates Lepolo "Averaged 15.0 points, 8.6 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 4.5 steals per game as a senior". She had 32 points in her final high school game. "Lepolo continually drove to the basket and finished two-point shots, many of them with a high degree of difficulty."
(BTW, Sniezek was NOT a great passer. Her senior year, she had 150 A and 78 TO. In her junior year (I can't find 2018 NCAA individual rankings) she was 99th in Assists/TO and 98th in Assists/game. No doubt she would have done better with this year's team, but, as I recall, she tried too many questionable passes.)
Lepolo's assists per quarter were 2, 1, 5, 3, playing 6, 4, 6, 5 minutes (non-starter).
As to a claim that the assists came during garbage time:
The cumulative time of SDS starters in this game by quarter were 29, 29, 28, 31 minutes. I don't see that "garbage time" is appropriate for what SDS was playing. (Stanford starters played 37, 27, 28, 0 minutes.)
As to a claim that the whole game was garbage time:
San Diego State was ranked #186 (out of 356) by the Net rankings last year.
(In Marta's senior year, she had 5 Assists and 2 TO in 20 minutes against RPI #205 CS Bakersfield, and 4 Assists and 2 TO in 27 minutes against #229 UC Riverside.)
Stanford single-game individual records indicate 11 assists in a single game is tied for 22rd in Stanford history (1x 16, 1x 15, 3x 13, 16x 12).
Marta did have a 13 Assist / 0 TO game in 24 minutes in a loss to Washington as a sophomore in 2016.
Maybe in 5 years we'll look back and see this as the best game in Lepolo's career, but I seriously doubt it.
