FWIW, the Milwaukee Journal used to have a "Green Sheet" printed on green paper. It carried the comics, a few columns such as local humor ("Slightly Kloss Eyed" by Gerald Kloss) and advice (Mrs. Griggs was Milwaukee's answer to Dear Abby), crossword puzzle, etc. Always the first section a kid wanted to look at.

What would be the rationale for this? How does it make sense to "get one more year," exactly?  I mean if you are saying "one more year" you are effectively already showing you don't have confidence. Why do you want someone in charge who doesn't have your confidence? Makes zero sense.

I've never in my memory seen a coach pressured into making coaching staff changes ever turn things around because the fact he didn't do it himself demonstrates he isn't fit for the job. Shaw proved he was unfit when he made zero changes after last season. That was proof Stanford Football isn't being led by serious people and why I stopped taking the program seriously.

Your comment on the AD makes my point.  I don’t know how many frequent this board or the other Stanford board, but my guess is if a poll were taken the results would be unanimous that Shaw should go.  Season ticket holders have spoken with there non renewals.  Others have spoken. With their absence.  Yet, I fear it won’t matter.  I hope I’m wrong.  Because otherwise, it is confirmation that the Admin does not care.

Your comment on the AD makes my point.  I don’t know how many frequent this board or the other Stanford board, but my guess is if a poll were taken the results would be unanimous that Shaw should go.  Season ticket holders have spoken with there non renewals.  Others have spoken. With their absence.  Yet, I fear it won’t matter.  I hope I’m wrong.  Because otherwise, it is confirmation that the Admin does not care.

I've never in my history of observing College Football seen a situation like Stanford has created for itself. It's always been a safe assumption that - just like all decisions are made based on money - every school will act when their football program hits rock bottom, and the coach can't even beat their rival anymore. 

Stanford is turning this assumption on its head. It's like nobody is home and/or nobody cares in a decision-making position at the school when things hit rock bottom. It's unprecedented to have a school be so indifferent to losing and embarrassing while doing so. 

Here's my belief:  If Shaw isn't fired on November 27, all the recruits in the next recruiting class should call Muir and say they aren't signing with Stanford unless a coaching change is made. They aren't coming to play for David Shaw. They are coming to get a Stanford degree and maybe prepare for the NFL. 

The players on the current team could all threaten to transfer, but I'm sure they buy into the litany of excuses like "injuries" and "we lack depth" and more importantly will want their Stanford degrees especially if they had to put up with lousy coaching and indifference to their sport for several years. 

I'm basically saying the only ones who care enough to force Stanford to take football seriously are the players yet to step on campus. But, honestly, if it takes people not yet on Stanford's campus to force changes, the school should just fold the program. Nobody who cares so little should have the opportunity to have a major college football team, and even if they were to make a change, who would have any confidence a good coach that would be supported by the school could possibly be hired?

Here's my belief:  If Shaw isn't fired on November 27, all the recruits in the next recruiting class should call Muir and say they aren't signing with Stanford unless a coaching change is made. They aren't coming to play for David Shaw. They are coming to get a Stanford degree and maybe prepare for the NFL. 

The players on the current team could all threaten to transfer, but I'm sure they buy into the litany of excuses like "injuries" and "we lack depth" and more importantly will want their Stanford degrees especially if they had to put up with lousy coaching and indifference to their sport for several years. 

I'm basically saying the only ones who care enough to force Stanford to take football seriously are the players yet to step on campus. But, honestly, if it takes people not yet on Stanford's campus to force changes, the school should just fold the program. Nobody who cares so little should have the opportunity to have a major college football team, and even if they were to make a change, who would have any confidence a good coach that would be supported by the school could possibly be hired?

The big issue now is that big time college football is at least semi-professional, I do not foresee the University changing its entrance requirements or its transfer rules significantly.  We will remain an attractive destination for those athletes for whom a Stanford Education is more important that professional sport aspirations.  We cannot go out an reload via the waiver wire.  We may be able to be reasonably competitive in terms of NIL but not transfers.  We may well end up with some halfway decent teams now and then, but if we aren't willing to play by the same rules employed by USC, Oregon and other schools in the conference it is unlikely we will compete for conference championships in major sports on a consistent basis.
