Kiffin's coaching has kneecapped that team's offense. They were running on UCLA at will; naturally Kiffin only willed it rarely.

So SC made UCLA look better than they were; unfortunately I'm not sure we have the playmakers on offense to take advantage. (hopefully Young doesn't get put in doghouse for fumble. He averages a first down per touch.)

I'll cheer for $C this weekend, unless ND promises to shutout Bama in the MNC game and score more than 50 on them.  Would also love to see the $EC teams collectively goose egg their bowl games.  That would end all talk of SEC superiority for a little bit...

$C sucks, but ND sucks more this year - at least we have already burst the trojans bubble this year, while ND fans are now pretty much intolerable with their #1 ranking, and their categorical refusal to consider that they squeaked out a controversial victory over us. What I would not give to play them again with Hogan.

Sorry if I ruffled some feathers by coming here, that wasn't my intention. I really just wanted to say how much I enjoy the rivalry between two good universities who understand the concept of a student athlete. That's a rare thing in this day and age of college football. Like I said in my original post, I don't think forward progress was stopped and I think you guys scored a TD. Anyway, good luck the rest of the season, you guys should be ranked much higher IMO.

ND has done a heck of a job cobbling together opponents as an independent (I know it's tough, who wants to schedule a team that could beat you?)--but the Pitt win and of course their Stanford "win" have soured me this season.  If ND had crushed Pitt, and if our game against ND had concluded fairly one way or the other, I wouldn't have a problem with ND vying for a natl champ berth.  ND fans are generally a cut above $EC fans, and at least they're helping our SOS this year.

I think g1313 has offered a pretty good rule to govern these situations: In an athletic contest between two blood enemies when the outcome has no direct consequence on Stanford, always root against the team with the most to lose. Clearly that's Northern Indiana Parochial College in this scenario. Imagine the crushed looks of disbelief on the faces of their fans when the bye in the BCS championship bequeathed to them in the Bible is suddenly snatched away.

I propose we name this the G1313 Theorem of Vengeful Thoughts in honor of its progenitor. Congratulations, sir. You will be awarded a prominent spot in the Swine Institutions We Hate And Wish Eternal Damnation Upon Hall of Fame.

I kind of hate to say this, because this guy seems so nice, but I've never thought of Notre Dame as a particularly good academic institution.  Earlier this year, when ND was promoting the ND-Stanford game as the first ever game between two schools that were top-25 in football and in academics, I was quite surprised (and skeptical) that ND ranked that high for academics.  I know, for example, that in my field (economics), ND has hugely upgraded the quality of their department in recent years, but that it still only barely cracks the top 50.  Perhaps ND is stronger as an undergrad school than it is at the graduate level.  But even there, it just doesn't seem like it's even close to being comparable to genuine academic powers such as the Ivies, Stanford, MIT, CalTech, etc.

Roberton, these kind of elitest posts really give Stanford students and alums a bad rap, imo, and help explain why a lot of other folks just flat don't like Stanford.  I don't know about you, but I believe luck had as much to do with my attending Stanford as anything else, given that there were several thousand qualified applicants for 1500 spots (and this was 30 years ago - there are undoubtedly way more qualified applicants than that now). 

Dumping on other schools - and very good ones at that - as not measuring up to Stanford is very poor form, even if you think you were ordained to go to Stanford due to your superior intellectual gifts. 

P.S.  If you're going to pull out the snob card, then maybe throw in an adverb where warranted.  Just a not-so-friendly suggestion.
