sometime around the last 1-2 games, williamson looked like he was back to his old form. i have a lot of confidence in williamson from now on.Â

Love how Shaw punted from 35 in regulation, when he could have put his team in position to win with a FG, and played for OT, only to see his kicker make one from the same distance in OT, and lose the game anyway.

Good thing Shaw knows Williamson can't make a FG from 50+. That punt with a couple minutes left was inexcusable.

Mind games with your kicker are never a good thing. Stanford has a points problem because David Shaw would rather punt than score FGs.Â

So with a bye week to prepare, our offensive brain trust managed to script a fantastic opening drive and include McCaffrey in more plays. Maybe we need three weeks to figure out how to score in one other quarter...

It looked like Carter wanted to defend a corner fade, but with so much open space between the inside receiver (split end?) and the outside receiver (flanker), the wide open slant (inside leverage) was an elementary playcall. Carter should have gotten inside leverage forced Wilson to attempt the backshoulder corner fade (a much more difficult throw than the inside slant).

Hard to fault the defense after ANOTHER stellar defensive effort and extremely anemic, unimaginative offensive game. BUT...how does our defense play so incredibly well for all of regulation and then blow coverages in overtime? Same thing happened on the 4th and 11 play against N.D.

Because the team takes on the personality of its head coach? I like Shaw, but he simply needs to be more aggressive in crunch situations. Punting, not going for it on 4th down, 3-man rushes on the biggest defensive plays. It all adds up.

Yeah, I can't point the finger at anyone on the defense. They gave up 7 points in regulation. If we can't win with that kind of performance, that is solely on our offense. It is amazing how far we have fallen on offense.

Yeah. We held Utah to their lowest regulation scoring output to date this season (prev 16 pts vs. ASU). You hold a team to 7 pts in any given CFB game, and you will probably win the game...unless you have an offense that can't score more than 7 pts.
Moral of the story is that points matter. Bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Sometimes 3 pts is better than 30 yds of field position.
