What surprised me about the first story was this quote from Tollefson's mouthpiece (below) and why it didn't have Garvin sputtering:

  “I kind of think of him (Tollefson) as the Greek mythology figure Icarus who dared to fly too close to the sun and crashed to the earth,” Goldman said. “Mr. Tollefson was really the real deal and he is a good and decent man. A good and decent man whose fatal flaw here is that he tried to do too much.”
