It was much harder to get a Penn State football scholarship than a Stanford football scholarship at that point. 

By the Scout rankings, in 2011 Stanford had the #23 ranked class and Penn State had the #34 ranked class. I am sure other services differed, but probably it was not much harder to get a Penn State football scholarship overall at that point.

However, Penn State did sign 5 OL in that class. Stanford signed 2. So it might have been easier to get a scholarship to Stanford as an OL in 2011.
