Shortening the shot clock would make basketball more like soccer and less like baseball. I think this would be an interesting experiment. Consider this: The most exciting situation that occurs in basketball is when a team has the ball with 10 seconds left and is down by 1 point. The most boring situation in basketball occurs when a team gets a new shot clock early in a game and then throws the ball around the perimeter for 30 seconds.
