I won't opine on the conclusion that the question reflects antisemitism, but I am confident that the question was improper. In this country, we do not accept race, religion, or national origin as an improper "bias." It is just not an arguable point that any suspect classification is a disqualifying characteristic for purposes of any official capacity. For example, a gay judge in California struck down Prop 8 as unconstitutional, and sexual orientation is not (yet) a suspect classification.Â
