Not sure when you went to Stanford, but times have changed.  Not just here, but on campuses around the country, especially in California.  Many Jewish students are made to feel like outcasts.  Even John Hennessy has said the issue of divestment of Israel (which typically pits minorities against Jewish students) has been the most divisive -- by far --during his three decade time at Stanford.
