When I was about 5 years old or so, Campbell's Soup used to run ads in Life Magazine and Time Magazine. They had this incredibly cute blonde girl that they used in some of the ads. I was smitten. I actually wrote letters to her with the assistance of my older brother and sister. They would then help address the letters to who knows where and put a stamp on the envelope. I don't think those letters ever made it out of the house, much less to the post office.
But every day I would check the mail to see if my little blonde goddess had received my letters and had written back to me. Eventually, I entered first grade and fell for another girl who looked remarkably like the Campbell's Soup girl. Same result - she didn't know, or acknowledge, that I existed.
