I was a Wilderness Camp Counselor and had my whitewater guide's license for the Main Salmon. I floated it 5 times in 3 years. I seem to remember that he would go to Grangeville about once a year but am not sure where I heard or read it, He was closely linked with the passing jet boats and Mackay Bar. It is most likely he got your Xmas card out through one of them. The rafting season ends much earlier than the outfitting/hunting season, October/November. The jet boats were the main distribution and collection service on the river for the locals that did not have airstrips.
Do you know if the Indian pictograms were the plains/Oklahoma Indians (where he grew up) or the Nezperce who were native to Central Idaho?
Great times and great memories of the 90 mile rafting trips on the Salmon.Â
