We were 8-4 regular season and I bet Ca'l gets to that, if not 7-5. It's reasonable to say that despite similar records, Harbaugh and Stanford had some real quality wins in '09 such as against SC and Oregon, which Ca'l lacks. But we also fell on our faces a couple of times against Wake Forest, Arizona and C'al. And the Achilles heel for Stanford that year was also our defense. Perhaps it takes a little longer to rebuild on that side of the ball.
I think anyone saying that Yikes can't take a team to the Rose Bowl based on his performance this season lacks perspective. Everyone predicted Stanford would decline when Toby left, but it didn't happen. I'll wait to woof until after BG.
Excepet Harbaugh did it with a redshirt freshman QB who beat out a returning starter and was only going to get better, while Cal is doing it with an experienced three-year starter who everyone expects to go to the NFL after this year. Our all-everything running back was also coming back after the Sun Bowl year. The trajectory after the Sun Bowl was still up. By this point in Harbaugh's tenure, our offensive line was already one of the best in the conference... Did you see Cal's OL last night? Is Anyone predicting that Cal will make it to a New Years six bowl next year? Yeah, me neither.
Most people think this will be Cal's high water mark.
