Slightly OT, but relative to an understanding of the times 100+ years ago:

Given the relatively chronological propinquity of the 1900 disaster and the 1906 switch from football to rugby, any connection? Also, re: the wikiarticle above, is the fact that our 12 year recusal from football seems to have diminished our respect from the Eastern media one reason why the West seems to continue to be the crazy uncle in the attic, football wise?
