I don't know much about the Missouri situation beyond what I've heard from some friends there and what's in this thread (thanks, Kathy, for the background info). But I have to think part of the problem is having a president with no experience in academia (other than being a student). As I've said before, that's like a major program picking a football head coach who has never played or coached football before.
