Opportunism is the key word. There is so much misinformation out there.
Thanks for some information.
There are at least two items prominent in the news that you did not mention - so I thought I would ask for clarification/your point of view.
1. The swastika-feces thing.
2. The unrest is generally described as "student and faculty protests".
Is the faculty protest broad-based?

The swastika thing is some sort of bizarre side note. There was no reaction from the Jewish community here. The icky incident occurred in a bathroom of Gateway Hall, a residence hall that just opened for the fall semester. The hall is the first on campus to offer "gender-flexible" bathrooms. My gut tells me it was not a racist incident, but rather a response to any number of controversies swirling on this campus right now.
As far as I can tell, the faculty protest, which popped up this morning as a call for a two-day suspension of classes, may be limited, as is the graduate student support. Both of these groups have other issues with the chancellor, who at this point still has a job. Graduate students are pushing for more pay and subsidized insurance. The faculty on the bandwagon may be along for the ride, but last week the English department issued a vote of no-confidence in the chancellor, an action that followed a written opposition report from the medical school faculty about the firing of the medical dean. These are problems unrelated to the racial fiasco that escalated over the weekend.
"To the press alone, checkered as it is with abuses, the world is indebted for all the triumphs which have been gained by reason and humanity over error and oppression." ~ James Madison
