Christian McCaffrey's All-Purpose Yardage
Through 11 Games:
Rushing: 1,546 yards
Receiving: 416 yards
Punt Ret: 32 yards
Kick Ret: 813 yards
Total: 2,807 yards
Average: 255.18 ypg
School single-season record for APY with 389, ten more than Milburn's in 1990 Big Game.
Finally, the NCAA rushing leaders:
1. Fournette, 1582
2. McCaffrey, 1546
3. Freeman, 1539
4. Henry, 1526
Couple of questions/comments.
1. Does anyone have the breakdown of Milburn's yards vs c.a.l. in 1990?
My memory is that the former was more spectacular, but it could be either my own age or the fact that the game was much more dramatic.
Have to say I find kickoffs somewhat cheap-yards in these calculations - or at least should really be counted vs. the touchback position. [i.e. if you return 5 kickoffs from the endzone to the 20 yard line you get 100 all purpose yards, but you have actually cost your team 25 yards versus taking a knee.]
2. The NCAA rushing leaders list above is total yards on the season. Rather misleading given that McCaffrey has played more games than most of those guys.
Per game the list is:
1. Fournette (LSU) 158.2
2. Rose (NMSU) 148.1
3. Cook (FSU) 147.5
4. McCaffrey (Stanford) 140.6
5. Freeman (Oregon) 139.9
Still fairly impressive.
