Supertitles would require good timing but if the opera can do it, Stanford can too.I agree that seeing the text is very helpful at home games. This year most of the games actually had the text running at the bottom of the screen. (At least the South screen did.) My wife's enjoyment of the band shows increased greatly when she could read the words because it is very difficult to hear clearly in a big stadium.Â
I wasn't in the band but find it funny when opposing fans are angry at the band even when they don't know what is being said. The anger over assumed insults is truly a waste of time. I couldn't hear what was being said but did laugh every time that cow fell over.Â
I think Iowa fans were also more aggressive than most non-rival fans in booing our team when they came on the field so booing the band was natural. I, and most of the Stanford section that I was in didn't boo their team when they came out because we have never even played them and have no reason to dislike them. It didn't offend me but I was surprised at the seeming animosity. I actually discussed it with my friend and we figured that was the culture among the Big-10 schools.Â
Here's hoping we have many more years of offending fans and offending the hallowed traditions of the Rose Bowl.
Cheers,
Pete F.
