Young women athletes are just more sensible than men.  Love to compete but don't have the Big Show of college football that seems to turn many young men's minds to mush.  Apart from a limping WNBA,  college athletics is the pinnacle for all but a few.  Might as well get the best education at the best-supported women's program.    Doesn't hurt that the campus is drop-dead gorgeous,  the weather great and the quality of the other students one gets to hang with is pretty evident.
