At the Rose Bowl, we won the toss and asked for the ball, even though we would be directly looking into the sun.  In the second quarter, Iowa did not have to look into the sun, as it had gone down, so the sun factor doesn't even out, and I'm sure Shaw knew that would be the case. Of course, there are different aspects to this - McCaffrey looked back towards the shade when receiving the first pass of the game.
