When I looked at the ads during the summer, I realized that the idea is basically to look like a super hero or combat villain from a futuristic movie. (Tron? Black Shadow?) After that, I "got" it. These guys are big kids and it harkens to the action figures they played with.
They're darker than cardinal, but they're not maroon. I think they're kind of cool for a night game, and probably for just one game of the year. Think of it as their evil alter ego uniform. It might even bring out some extra nastiness! You definitely want the cardinal for the daytime, though.
