I think the confusion stems from trying to address a DLine depth problem by adding more down linemen.  Stanford arguably went the other direction last year, playing a lot of 2-5 (or perhaps 2-4-5?).  But sure, you can put your OLBs on the line and call it a 5-2.

Perhaps that means we'll be seeing more of this (a certain player's first TD catching the ball just over the DLine).
