This discussion of the UC system's highest paid employee's trajectory reminds me that soon after His Royal Ungratefulness's departure there was a strong sentiment among some Stanford fans that "UC East Bay got the guy we wanted" (i.e. the UC system's highest paid employee), due in part to His Royal Ungratefulness's late departure. It's interesting to ponder how things may have turned out had we hired the UC system's highest paid employee instead of the coaches we affectionately refer to as Ted's Buddies.
I like the way things worked out for us. IMO, the few years with Harbaugh as coach alone were worth it (not discounting Shaw, just too early to tell). However, I'm not sure I would have felt the same way in the early 2000's even if I knew how things woul pan out a few years later...
Past performance is no guarantee of future returns. I reserve the right to retract this post and change my tune if the UC system's highest paid employee rediscovers his mojo and starts kicking posteriors in the future.
