I am only surprised it took this long to make the announcement. In that notable interview Tara did soon after Washington bounced us out of March madness she said:
I think this was the first public signal that Kailee had issues. Given how Bob described Kailee as being such a dominant player in high school, it seems as if she was not as focused on basketball once she got to college, and never developed to her full potential. We would only see little flashes every so often. Well, Kailee clearly made the decision that Tara told her she needed to make.
That interview also might well be related in some way--whether cause or effect--of a ruptured relationship with Lili's family.
Notably, both players will graduate. They made the right decisions academically, and Stanford is classy enough (apparently) not to cut their scholarships for non-performance. It will be interesting to see if both players go on and play their final years elsewhere, and if so, where. My guess would be Lili will and Kailee won't.
Quote:VanDerveer was blunt about what some players must do to improve. She wants Thompson to pass more. We need her to be unselfish and have a better turnover-to-assist ratio.....Kailee Johnson has to make a decision about her relationship with basketball. Shes fairly skilled and very smart, but how important is basketball to Kailee? I think she could be a lot better.http://www.sfgate.com/collegesports/arti...216231.php
