The construction of the stadium has nothing to do with the noise level of the crowd. Stanford fans just don't yell and cheer for their team like other fans do.

I agree that Stanford fans are more sedate than other fans, but the construction also does help to absorb whatever sound they do make.  If you have spent time in stadiums that are known for being loud, you know that it involves more than noisy fans.  But here is the good news--the old stadium was worse.

As far as dwindling attendance as the game went on--I have been at night games in which we were winning handily which had the exact same dwindling attendance after halftime.  It is simply a ridiculously late hour to take your family to a football game.
