I found out some interesting things. Obviously Sorry Yikes has never beaten Stanford, but did you know that he's never beaten a team from California? We're the Kings of Cali, they're the Serfs of Cali. The California Golden Serfs? Also, they're still really mad about Shayne Skov, which is nice.Dykes' lack of success against top teams is mentioned often by those that cover UCB actually. Dykes has been successful outscoring bad teams, but better teams and/or teams with talent on D have consistently shut down UCB's O. And, of course, almost every program has been able to score points on Dykes' Ds.Â

Just one of the many reasons I would not trade any part of the Stanford formula for any part of the UCB formula. Dykes pattern is very predictable at this point. Early in the season a healthy team beats up on early season cupcakes, but defense suffers some injuries during the lengthy games with very high snap counts. In the middle of the season a less healthy team still finds a way to outscore some conference teams, but loses to many others. By the end of season the snap count takes a toll on the offense too, and the defense is demoralized and depleted. Dykes finds excuses in the injuries and the staff while the November losses mount.
2016 isn't the first season in this pattern. Must be frustrating for UCB alums, but great for Stanford since Big Game is held near the end of the season.
