So he is probably not terrible.Â
He certainly is not terrible. Where he fits after that is as hard to figure out as for any coach.
Two years at Buffalo is a bit of an over-statment since his second year lasted two games. At that point the Bills were averaging 19 points per game, which I think was not #8 in the NFL.
The two years with Stanford bit is a curious case. There is the ongoing mystery about who did what with respect to Stanford's offense at that time, particularly in 2010.
Shaw was officially the offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach in 2009, OC and running backs coach in 2010. However, in 2010 he was rumored to have been effectively supplanted by Roman with respect to running the offense.
Roman was the tight ends and offensive tackles coach. In 2009 he was also Running Game Coordinator that morphed into Associate Head Coach and Offensive Assistant in 2010. Â
And of course Harbaugh himself was very much involved in the offense.
It may or may not have been clear to the coaches just who was responsible for what, but it wasn't clear to observers.
