Quote:Here\'s an interesting piece rounding up some of the scheduling/divisional/post-season possibilities for a Pac-11/12. One horrifying revelation: The Pac-10 may be on the hook for some of the $10 million exit fee Colorado has to pay the Big 12...most of which, apparently, will go to Texas. Next person to congratulate Larry Scott for "thinking outside the box" gets a slap in the mouth.

$10 million is not on the table and there are no "exit fees" or "penalties" in the Big 12 bylaws. Â Each season the big12 awards a pot of cash to member schools based on how many times you are on TV and what that game is worth. Â In the case of Colorado you give 12-18 months notice of intention to leave you forfeit 50% of that cash. Â Back in 2008 when we were a bigger draw than we are today we made around 9.7million from that TV deal. Â So next year we\'ll be due for about the same, maybe less considering how much we suck. Â Of that potential pot totaling say $9million, half will be kept by the Big 12 instead of paid to us. Â The year after that being 2011 is still very much in question, the huskers are gone from the big12 by then. Â The rest of the league seems intent on forcing us out, in which case they\'d forfeit any claim to any exit withholding for that year.
What none of this answers though are 2 legal issues that Nebraska is suing over: the with holdings are only provided for in the case that we damage the conference by leaving, if Beebe\'s mythical TV deal exists we\'d both owe nothing. Â Secondly the with holding is only provided for if we left voluntarily which Nebraska argues was not the case, UT and the south wanted to force NU, CU, MU to commit to the big12 without doing so themselves effectively forcing us to choose between something that didn\'t exist or very certain secondary offers.
Seems like you guys are pretty anti-Scott but I from where I sit I can\'t see anyway that the universities in the pac-10 would have to pay a dime of a withholding imposed on CU. Â On the brighter side you also picked up a conference championship game and two new TV markets. I\'d be surprised even if the Big12 managed to exact the fake penalty from pac-10 schools costing you each 1mm if you didnt make that back 5 or 6 times over in the first year of the new conference.
