That's a pretty odd statement, and I guess it relies upon a rather broad definition of a coaching trap.
Until a month ago, Oregon hadn't fired a coach in 40 years.
It would seem to me a pretty good definition of a coaching trap is a place that continually fires coaches because they don't have the resources to win, refuse to admit it, and keep fantasizing that the next coach will be the guy to magically create a winning program.
Also, until a month ago, every head coach for forty years either moved on to the NFL or became Athletics Director. Not exactly a dead end.
If you mean that the duckies are unlikely to win a national championship, I think that is true. But that is true for probably at least 120 of the 128 FBS teams, so it doesn't seem a strong statement.

That they do. As does most every program in the country. For several years they were coming in low teens or so, and without a strong home-base they probably won't consistently rise much higher.
But, you can win a lot of games if you consistently recruit in that range.
Quote:My prediction is that Taggart will deliver better results than Helfrich but not better than Kelly.
That's a pretty safe prediction, particularly if you mean the results Helfrich achieved this year. Lifetime Helfrich has a 70% win rate, which is better than all but a handful of active coaches.
Fortunately one of those handful is our guy, who has a 79% win rate.
