U.S. is still in good shape, I\'d say. Let\'s say England beats Algeria (safe assumption, that). That means ENG 4/SLV 4/US 2/ALG 0. The U.S. then has to beat Algeria by more than one goal to assure advancement; fewer than that and we\'re hoping for an outright win by one side or another.
But let\'s say it\'s a draw. That means SLV 4/US 2/ENG 2/ALG 0. Slovenia might bunker for the draw against England in this scenario, but all that means is that the U.S. has to win. Should the U.S. tie and ENG tie in that scenario, well then I believe it\'s determined by who has scored the most goals.
If Algeria pulls off the upset of the tournament, that means SLV 4/ALG 3/US 2/ENG 1. Then the U.S. has to win, and will be guaranteed entrance with one.
All the U.S. has to do is win, and Algeria has looked pretty awful so far.
