Learn something new every day. Upon pulling up the Youtube clips, it was rather evident that the Zombies were older. But their version didn't include any of the "breakdown" part of the Santana version, which Band incorporates.  I would have preferred if they said "the Santana cover of The Zombies'..." but of course they won't do that. I know it matters not one bit what I think, but I will always think of it as Santana's version when played by LSJUMB.  8)

Seems likely that you are right, unless there's some record of the band playing the arrangement before 1976. The band has used a lot of 70's rock, including Santana pieces.
