Geez, what are we going to have next, players deciding midway through the season that they want to enter the NFL draft and sitting out the rest of it?

It certainly lends credibility to the notion that college football players are only there to prepare themselves for professional football.

McCaffrey was named CoSIDA's Academic All American of the Year and carries a 3.43 GPA so it's not fair to say that he attended college only to prepare for the NFL; he was dedicated to his studies and to the community throughout his time at Stanford.

Not playing in the bowl game does say something about his commitment to the football team itself but not about his motives for choosing Stanford.

Regarding the comment about quitting mid-season, Cal Quantrill could have pitched towards the end of last season but had a draft guarantee from SD and chose not to return and risk injury. Given the millions of dollars at stake I can't blame the man given the circumstances.
