I think I read that CM had $5M insurance for an injury that resulted in him not being drafted. $3M if injury significantly reduced his draft position. Dont remember where I read it so maybe I am mis-remembering or am flat out wrong.

McCaffrey almost certainly has insurance in place, and given his projected draft position a payout in that range would be reasonable. OTOH, Last year Jaylon Smith was almost unanimously projected to be a top-5 pick but fell into the second round after his bowl game injury. The first five picks in the 2016 draft received contracts ranging from $23.3 million to $27.9 million; Smith signed for just under $6.5 million. So in his case the injury cost him significantly more.
