FWIW - At Oregon I never really thought Kelly's offense was the real secret sauce.
What was amazing was the D. They would often be on the field for 35-40 minutes a game. The offense rarely was concerned about giving them any rest. Yet, in their prime, the Oregon D would be decent.
Other teams have offenses now that can score a bunch too, but most of the teams lack anything like Oregon's defense.
Kelly's offense is not going to work for Stanford. I know a lot of people LOVE these bubble screens and no thought air raid offenses, but Stanford is doing well on the recruiting landscape because Stanford is NOT trying to do those things.
Those OL, TE, FBs and even QBs that Stanford has been getting are coming to Shaw because Stanford plays a system similar to what is utilized in the NFL. For OL and TE Stanford is not just the best 40 year decision it is also the best 4-5 year decision too. If Stanford implemented some raid-light style Stanford loses those top tier TE & OL to other schools and has to compete with so many other schools for a set of WRs so unlikely to get into Stanford. The secret to the raid system is that the teams just react to what is given to them at the line. Run the play, dump the ball, repeat. It is not exactly leveraging the intelligence and attention to detail common to those likely to get into Stanford.
