Cal's recruiting class isn't all that big or impressive, but it will not fall apart. Most Cal commits, like Stanford commits, chose the school as much as the coach.Â
I haven't believed Kelly would want Cal either, because they now need 80% of recruits to have a 3.0+ high school GPA in core classes. Stanford fans can scoff, but this would probably give Cal the second most demanding entrance requirements in the Power 5 to Stanford.
If they can become a program that recruits nationally, they can probably find enough good players to compete with a good coaching regime. They could become a much bigger recruiting rival to Stanford with a compelling head coach.Â
