My total guess is that this has to do with reducing the Athletic Dept. deficit, Williams was given some directive on increasing alumni donations, then he went to the big donors and learned he could not get the donations while Dykes was still HC.

I'm thinking the AD gets rid of Dykes, eats the bailout, and stingy calum still doesn't pony up.
