Unfortunately the prelim results as of 2PM don't show who qualified in the 200 Fly.Â
Stanford is good in the 1650, and weak in the 200 Br. We go into the finals of the 100 Free with the top swim, but only the one swimmer. Cal qualified very well in the 100 Free & 200 Br, and is seeded well in the 200 Fly.
Using the prelim swims for 200 Back, 100 Free, 200 Br, and seeding for 200 Fly, 1650 Free, 400 Free Relay, Cal's projected point totals beat Stanford by 20 points (792-772). USC would be projected 3rd at 653.
But times are so close. In the 200 Br, 4 Cal swimmers & 1 Stanford swimmer qualified 4th - 8th, but only 0.25 separates them. If we finish 4th with them behind us, that's a 6 point swing compared to my current numbers.  In the 200 Back, I could see a possible gain of 3 points. In the 200 Fly (qualifying already happened, but I only have the seeding), there is a potential for a better Stanford result.
My totals would have Stanford down 12 points going into the final relay. Even if Stanford is leading by 5, unfortunately, Cal has the 400 Free Relay locked up. If all Cal needs to do is win the relay, they can take leisurely starts and still win the relay (and the meet). We're seeded 3rd and could conceivably move up to 2nd (+2 points), but the only way for Cal to lose is to get DQed.
(I'm not going to look at this again until I see the broadcast Sunday morning at 10:30.)
