Great to hear the swimming-related impressions, feedback, and anecdotes. The period during which swimming is captivating is all too brief, so it's nice to have this discussion.
Today was a very successful day for Stanford diving, for both men and women, who are participating in the same Zone meet to determine NCAA qualifiers. There are only two women competing, and both secured invites today in the three-meter event. (Three-meter and platform are tomorrow and Wednesday). It must be that one of Stanford's women divers, Gracia Leydon Mahoney, who won the ? 3-meter at NCAAs last year, is injured, as she did not compete at Zones.
Of note, there's an odd arrangement in diving whereby the NCAA pays the way for only some of the qualifiers, but I'm sure Stanford will foot the bill for any diver who qualifies but falls short of achieving sponsored status to the NCAA meet.
The men have four divers competing at Zones, and three punched their ticket for NCAAs today on the one-meter. The fourth diver won the platform competition at Pac-12's, so his best opportunity to quality will be in that event.
For those who want to delve deeper into the arcane methodology of diving qualification, knock yourselves out:
