Maybe? It's nice to have that guaranteed home game every year, but we haven't fully gone down the road of one of the non-conference games being cupcakes. In 2021, two of the games are on the road (Kansas State and Vanderbilt), and the same is true in 2025 (Vanderbilt and BYU). I guess I don't really see the value of home non-conference games against marginal opponents in the first couple of weeks, so I'm fine doing a home-and-home vs. teams that are already on the future schedules like Boston College, TCU, and Vanderbilt. I'd like to add Georgia Tech to that list to get us in front of Georgia kids, since we've had a nice recruiting pipeline there.Â
And though 2018's non-conference schedule isn't as impressive as others, future schedules will look very respectable if we continue playing Notre Dame after the 2023 season. In 2024, it would be vs. TCU, vs. Vanderbilt, and @ N.D.; in 2025, it would be @ Vanderbilt, @ BYU, and vs. N.D.; in 2027, it would be @ TCU, vs. Vanderbilt, and vs. N.D.
