It's totally compatible for her teammates at times to be less than fully understanding of her predicament, possibly thought her issues were more about the shin splints than the concussions, and therefore to question her decision to take the year off, only to realize now, in hindsight, things were much worse, and now they wish her all the best. That version of events would be completely understandable to me, and doesn't impugn their character or require the Hodson not be telling the truth. With medical issues that involve a certain amount of privacy, there is often a disconnect between what the patient knows and is experiencing and what third parties perceive and assume.
