Northwestern is a middle of the pack Big Ten team.  Rice is a bottom dwelling Conference USA team.  Gigantic difference.

Of course there is. I merely mentioned Northwestern to show that teams can improve significantly from one year to the next. Northwestern was coming off two losing seasons in a row before they beat us and went on to a 10-3 season in 2015.
