We refer to Walker Little as a Texan, Trenton Irwin as a Californian, Ben Edwards as a Floridian ... Indeed Hawaiian also has an ethnic definition but referring to someone from the state as Hawaiian isn't incorrect.

This may be so from your perspective, and quite possibly, the vast majority of the rest of the population (except for those living in Hawaii, or who have Hawaiian blood, and those who know). But I would bet that if you called him Hawaiian, he would correct you that he isn't one.
