I have heard that Shaw was concerned by Rosen's questions about the depth chart and the presumption that he would not be patient in waiting to get on the field. Rosen has the reputation of thinking that he is smarter than his coaches. Of course this ironic given all the criticism of Shawvitagren's conservative offensive philosophies. Surely some members of the forum would have been pleased for Rosen to have been a offered a combination quarterback/OC scholarship so that he could have installed a more aggressive offensive scheme.

Further, this sword cuts both ways. Rosen may have really wanted to play as a freshman, because he wanted to be "3 and out". That wouldn't have happened at Stanford. He may have wanted to attend Stanford for the "40 year decision". He may have been disappointed not to get an offer. However, he may have reluctantly turned such an offer down under those circumstances. It could really be quite mutual, no animosity on either side. Since he and Shaw supposedly still get along, no reason to think otherwise.
