Mick, in your scenario, what does Rosen do when Shaw says "you're not being invited to walk on?"
I love the hopefulness of your hypothetical scenario, but it's unrealistic on SO many fronts.Â
BTW, how do you think Logan Tom would have responded had the VB coach said to her "We don't like your attitude and are not prepared to offer you a scholie?"
Somehow I don't think Logan's response would have been: "Okay. What if I agree to walk-on freshman year and then earn my scholarship after that?"
P.S. I picked this example for a couple reasons. First, Logan Tom was consensus best WVB her senior year (and Rosen was close to that at QB his senior year). Second, my niece was a really good VB player in HS and had many D1 scholarship offers. She was the same year as Logan Tom. Stanford offered two scholies that year (and not to my niece, unsurprisingly). Coach did tell my sister Stanford wanted her daughter to come to Stanford as a walk-on (and I think she had the profile to be admitted). My sister and her husband (both Stanford grads who could afford the tuition tab) had no interest in that. They wanted their daughter to go to a school where the coaching staff really wanted/appreciated her. [I thought she should have walked on at Stanford!].
