Seems like we will never know the full thinking, but I struggle with the theories where Shaw is playing Sone complex game.  I think he felt that KC was prepared and wanted to give him every chance to succeed once in the heat of the battle—and he may look back and feel he should have made a change.  But now he feels KJ gives us the best chance so there you have it.
