I now tend to agree that Love will play if he can (different than my earlier hold-out assumption). And while I think it will be a straightforward calculation for him - if he's good enough to give it a go, he will - there are other considerations that we fans can raise.
Bowl games. My current belief is that there are only two paths to avoiding the Foster Farms Bowl: beating SC in CCG; or beating Votre Dame, and hope that SC beats WSU in CCG. And even in latter scenario, I'm not sure 9-3 Stanford will get the nod for the Holiday Bowl.
After listening to the press conference, I think he will play, as well. I also think the players think more of this rivalry than we older alumni do. I'm a little more sanguine about our bowl opportunities.

Yvonne, it also depends on the person. I have a very visceral hatred of all things Votre Dame. My father (a self-described recovering Catholic) raised me to believe "×ÉÉ is the Rival, U$C is Evil and the Irish are the Devil" (the school and fans, not the people of Ireland).
I am taking him to his first in-person game against the crying whyrish this weekend.

SUBuddha, I was treated well by the home N.otre Dame fans the two times I watched Stanford play in South Bend. The Irish fans displayed fine midwestern hospitality and generosity. Sort of the opposite of going to Berkeley for a game. So please be a good host to the visitors.
But I am right there with you in my feelings about the Domers, the disproportionate attention they get from the media and the TV, conference and bowl rules written just for them (not to mention the Lizzie Seeberg and Declan Sullivan deaths). The schadenfreude when Stanford beat N.otre Dame in 1990 was almost too much happiness, especially when Lou Holtz said "I'm one step from suicide" post game. Here's hoping we see more red-faced disappointment from Brian Kelly on Saturday.

That was an extremely fun train ride back to Chicago and a GREAT night of celebration. We, too, were actually quite impressed with the civility and kindness of the Noter Dame fans; especially in light of how disappointed they must have been. That win was HUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGEEEEEEE!!!!
