I bet younger alums care less about the ND game than older alums. As an 06 grad, I still am annoyed about Ty running through the senior day celebration, but ND hasn't really been that great over the span I've been a fan, and I wouldn't mind if we replaced them on the schedule because of the scheduling conflicts we have to live with to accomodate their preferences. I'd much rather play kal last game every year,  and play SC some time besides mid September every year.

That was such a classless move.  IMHO, the sheriff still stung over not receiving what he thought was an appropriate offer from Stanford.  I think, deep down, he realized that Stanford was really the only D1 program that he could "thrive," if a .500 program, once-a-decade Rose Blow, but-beating-ca.l-every-year is considered thriving.  I think he knew, in his heart of hearts at that point, that he was out of his depth and just playing out the money string and that he would ultimately fail at ND, and that the position after ND would be his last.  I think he was cognizant of the fact that he just wasn't good enough.
