All this talk of Ivy-ball reminded me of a former school mate.
One of my high school classmates went to Harvard believe it or not on a full-ride football scholarship.
His family couldnt afford to visit Boston, but he was flown up to be interviewed for a leadership scholarship. After he got back, and we asked him about his trip, he said it was just a bunch of crusty old rich dudes asking him again and again, if he got the scholarship, would he be playing for the Harvard football team. He told them absolutely and that hed definitely play football there. He was admitted to Harvard, and received a full-ride leadership scholarship.
He never intended to play football there, but perhaps the rich donors got the last laugh, because he flunked out. I sometimes wonder whether angry donors, if they felt deceived, could pull strings to make life more difficult for a student. Though, I am not saying that was necessarily the case here, because his academics were mediocre.
